Designer's Statement:

Our production of We Are Pussy Riot endeavored to take a multimedia journey through the story of protest, trial and imprisonment of the famous Russian punk activist collective.  The sound design was instrumental in carrying out the mission of a troupe of "holy fools" (the cast) as they guided the audience through time, space and meaning.  The locations varied drastically in nature and included the sanctuary of a Russian Orthodox cathedral, to a jail cell, a Siberian prison camp and a huge outdoor concert.  The design used over 25 speakers, 17 wireless channels, FM transmitters and over 400 lines of Qlab code.  Through manipulation of timing through the many speaker channels and varying types and levels of reverb., the audience was able to experience these locations and experiences in a way that brought them more fully into the story and, at times, even promoted interaction and involvement.
